For the past few years I've been incredibly interested in the way in which the public interacts with government agencies, the process in which designers brand for them, and more generally speaking, the way that design informs all aspects life.
The 1970's EPA rebranding team, Chermayeff & Geismar ( now Chermayeff & Geismar & Haviv ) has worked on several other large scale identity projects as well including, the Library of Congress, the MoMA, PBS, etc.
I hope this Kickstarter reaches it's goal of $158,000, so that this system may serve as a blueprint for good / sustainable design thinking, as well as a resource for students + professional designers to create with social / environmental / political change in mind.
p.s. Check out Standards Manual to see the other cool! projects they've backed like The NASA Graphics Standards Manual by Richard Danne and Bruce Blackburn (that I proudly own), and The NYCTA Graphics Standards Manual, (that I'm still pining after) describing "the design and construction for the iconic NYC subway signs that we still use today."
Happy Monday, y'all~
This poster was made while working on a packaging project that was generating more heat than light. This is "This is Futura Book" and it now hangs forever above my desk.
Re-branding project for Chai Pani's Give Back program. Every first Wednesday of the month, Chai Pani donates 10% of dinner proceeds to a local non-profit organization. This one was for Standing Up for Racial Justice's Asheville chapter. SURJ is dedicated to encouraging white people to act as part of a multi-racial majority for justice with passion and accountability through community organizing, mobilizing, and education. These were formatted for check inserts, table tents, social, flyers, and posters. #designforgood
Film by Marian Sell
NYC / Jupiter hometown friends, BONOMO, released their music video "Water" this morning. This film is beyond beautiful, just like their original sweet sounds. Over the past year, I've been working with Adam on building his website, managing the sites content, and the setting up his new site for The Caravan Sessions. Congrats y'all!!
Playing around with various type / color combos today. Beginning concept design for the River Arts District - Asheville, NC.
I've just stumbled upon Jenny Holzer while hanging around Malaprop's Bookstore in downtown Asheville. I'm not sure how I missed her, but I'm glad she's been found.
Gathering some inspiration from one of my all time design heroes, Stefan Sagmeister today. Sagmeister's an excellent combination of play + punk rock.

This morning, Facebook's Your Memory feature reminded me of a collaborative project - "Mercury Is Spinning Forward" that exhibited one year ago at Two Columns Gallery in Sarasota, FL.
Curator Irene Garibay who brought 19 artists of varying disciplines and artistic backgrounds together, one Saturday last fall. 14 hours was spent improvising and creating pieces together using recycled found objects. We opened to the public a few days later. The pieces evolved with each stroke as the artists worked, independently or with others in smaller groups.
This is a large installation piece that Irene and I focused on for the first portion of the experience.
